Foneas Beach
Foneas Beach is considered one of the top 10 beaches in the Peloponnese. Although this beach in Western Mani has a “deadly” name, it is far from threatening. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful and unique beaches you will ever see. It features pebbles and some of the most turquoise, crystal-clear waters you will encounter.
It is surrounded by rocks, which in some places create shaded areas where you can relax. A notable feature of the beach is the large rock that dominates the center of the small bay, offering adventure lovers the chance to enjoy cliff diving.
There are many myths about the name of the beach. The most prevalent one says that a pirate shipwrecked on the beach and sought refuge in its cave. While repairing his ship, he killed passersby to rob them, which is how the beach earned the name “Foneas” (meaning “killer” in Greek).
The beach is located in Western Mani, well hidden at the end of a path, and when you see it, it will take your breath away. It is waiting to be discovered, and you will be enchanted by its mythical beauty and unique crystal-clear waters.
